We have never been as far away from comprehensive gun reform as we are now. The Supreme Court has already issued two major rulings regarding gun regulation this term, one striking down a Hawaii law on gun carry restrictions and a second striking down a federal law banning gun ownership by marijuana users. Now, the court readies itself to hear a more pressing case: laws banning assault weapons. As a reminder, assault weapons were federally banned from 1994 to 2004, during which we saw a measured decrease in tragedies.
